Recipe for Karuppu Kavuni Rice
Here’s a simple recipe to prepare Karuppu Kavuni rice. This method highlights its unique flavor and texture while keeping the preparation straightforward.

Ingredients:
1 cup Karuppu Kavuni rice
2 cups water
1 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter) or oil
1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
1 bay leaf (optional)
1-2 green cardamom pods (optional)
1 small cinnamon stick (optional)
Instructions:
Rinse the Rice:

Rinse the Karuppu Kavuni rice thoroughly under cold water to remove any impurities. This rice may release more color than other varieties, so rinse until the water runs clear.
Soak the Rice:

Soak the rice in water for about 30 minutes. Soaking helps in cooking the rice more evenly and can also reduce the cooking time.
Cook the Rice:

In a medium-sized pot, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat (if using).
If desired, add the bay leaf, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick to the pot and sauté for about 1 minute to infuse their flavors.
Add the soaked and drained rice to the pot and gently stir to coat the rice with the ghee or oil.
Add Water and Salt:

Pour in the water and add the salt. Stir to combine.
Bring to a Boil:

Increase the heat to high and bring the water to a boil.
Simmer:

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and let it simmer for about 25-30 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.
Rest the Rice:

Turn off the heat and let the rice sit covered for an additional 5-10 minutes. This helps the rice firm up and makes it easier to fluff.
Fluff and Serve:

Remove the lid and fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains. Serve hot.
Optional Additions:
Vegetables: Add chopped vegetables like carrots, beans, or peas to the rice during the cooking process for added nutrition.
Nuts and Seeds: Toasted nuts or seeds can be added for extra crunch and flavor.
